Singlespeech is the basic language of the ler
[sic], a race of genetically modified humans. There is very little
illustration of Singlespeech in actual conversation, but it is of
primary importance in the nomenclature. Words have different meanings
for different modes of speech according to whether the Air, Fire or
Water elements are invoked. The number of syllables in a name will tell
you the class of object that it is. Multispeech is a mode of
communication only the ler are capable of, which facilitates direct
idea transference at high speed and with "multiple channels" like a
kind of multidimensional speech - described in contrast to normal
language which is, of course, strictly linear and one-dimensional. |
